Getting Healthy!

Since August I have really been trying to lose weight and to get healthy. To date I have been able to lose 37 lbs :D I struggle with not making fastening foods and baking. I have been really watching the amount of fat and sugar I use when cooking for my family. Today I was in the mood to bake and decided to whip up a batch of scones. I tend to look up about 5 different recipes and then build my own from there. Here is my recipes for these amazing lemon blueberry drop scones!

Lemon Blueberry Scones

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp wheat germ
6 tbsp margarine, chilled
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp lemon zest
1 cup frozen blueberries

1. Mix flours, sugar, baking powder, salt and wheat germ in a large bowl.
2. Cut margarine into cubes and toss in the flour mixture. Mix together with your hands to get the margarine into small pieces.
3. Add milk, lemon juice and zest. Mix well.
4. Using a spatula fold in the blueberries. Using a ice cream scoop, place on sprayed cookie sheets. Bake at 400* for about 14 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown.
* If you wish you can add a lemon drizzle frosting over the top of the warm scones
Lemon Drizzle

1/2 cup powder sugar
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp lemon zest

Guess better late than never right?! In October, Aiden and I accompanied my friend Jessica and her husband Bill and their two kiddos, Noah and Eden, to Park City Ky for a weekend get-a-away. We also went to Nashville for a day since we were so close. Here are a few pics from that. Also, Aiden and his girl Izzy dressed up for Trick-orTreat :D

Kitchen Remodel

Yep! He's at it again. Jesse is now remodeling our kitchen!!! I know that it will be worth it in the end but it sure is rough getting there! Here are a few pictures that I have taken so far. He has told me that this will only take a week to do....that would mean that he will be done on Tuesday....I'm NOT holding my breath :D <3 I am VERY thankful though to have such a hardworking and ambitious husband!

This past weekend Jesse, Aiden and I were able to go to Michigan to visit my best friend and her family. We have a great friendship that has always been a huge blessing to me. It was very neat to see Aiden and her son (my godson) have the same great friendship. Growing up Jessica and I only got to see eachother for one week once a year but we made sure that it was a GREAT week! We always seemed to be able to pick up right where we left off. Well it took forever BUT I finally graduated!Many of you know that I promised my dad before he died that I would graduate, it took me awhile to do it but I was able to fulfill my promise to him and the ceremony was on his birthday! I thought it was VERY fitting :D What made it even more wonderful was that Oma graduated with her masters also! Here are a few pics of the graduates! :D

Thank goodness for McDonald's playland!!! Tuesday nights are "school" nights for the kids on Franklin St, but the library had to cancel it this past week due to a meeting that was going to take place in the room that they hold "school." This would usually not be a big deal because the kids are unaware of days of the week and schedules. The problem was that their mothers had forgotten and we had told the kids that they had school today! Big mistake!!! So thanks McDonald's for allowing two mothers with 5 children to descend upon you and to give the mothers a chance to eat a hot meal, even if it was fast food! :D

Finally I am an aunt. My brother and sister-in-law welcomed their baby girl into the world on November 1, 2009. Aiden loves his cousin and talks about her almost everyday. It has been forever since I posted so here is a quick update on this Schoch household.
Aiden is getting so big and has been spending most of his summer outside playing with all the neighborhood kids. We generally get a knock on the door around 9 am asking if "baby Aiden" can play. He is such an active boy!
Jesse took the summer off from school, but was second-guessing that decision a week into it, he has been working his butt off between his 45-60 hours a week a FSI and all the projects that he has been doing around the house. He also took a CPR and First Aid class this summer....he just never stops.
I took a class this summer, Philosophy! I thought about dropping after the second week but decided to stick to it and ended up getting a B in what the professor described as a "hard a very demanding 8 week course" I take my final class this fall and will graduate!!!!!

Jesse and I are in the middle of painting our office at home and there are alot of different switches and screws laying around due to changing out sockets and such. Today Aiden and Jesse spent about half an hour playing with a screw and a lightswitch. Putting the screw in the switch and taking it out. It was neat to see the passing of the "male knowledge."

Since we had Aiden's birthday party the day before his actual birthday, Jesse and I decided to take him out to lunch on his actual b-day. Aiden decided that he wanted pizza so we took him to East of Chicago and Opa came along too. After eating some pizza, which he wanted to dip into his pudding (as long as he likes it right!?) we let him play a few games. He loved it. He ended up winning 40 tickets and he was so excited. He put them right into his pocket. On our way out he cashed them in for 4 suckers and boy was he proud! I look forward to spending special days like this with him and any future children. I'm determined to give him only great memories of his childhood!

This Past Weekend

This past weekend Jesse, Aiden and I were able to get away and go visit my best friend and her family. It was Noah's (our Godson) 1st birthday! It was so great to see Aiden and Noah interact. They haven't see eachother in 6 months but they played like they hadn't missed a beat. It reminded me of how Jessica and I were every summer.

We only saw eachother for a week in the summer, but when we did we were inseperable and it was like we had never missed a day of eachother's lives! I only hope that Aiden and Noah continue a friendship as great and meaningful as their moms'!

Jesse and I got Aiden a big boy bed this year for Christmas. When he opened the box and we told him that it was a bed, he just looked at us puzzled. I'm pretty sure he was thinking, it's a box , not a bed!!! Later on in the day Jesse and Aiden put the bed together and took down his crib. When Jesse had it all together and had the bedding on it Aiden said, "oh, Daddy....Cars McQueen, Ta-Mater, King bed!!!!" I thought it to be cute! Here is Aiden's bed.

Here are a few pictures that were taken this weekend at my brothers house. We usually have our Christmas with my mom, step-father, sister and her fiance, brother and sister-in-law (this year my grandpa, was able to come too!) in the beginning of December so we have a chance to get together before all the chaos that is the Christmas season begins. As you can see Aiden makes out like a bandit because he is the only gandchild and there are no cousins to compete with. He is all about Cars (the movie) and my family went nuts! We had alot of fun.

It was such a nice day today, so Jesse took Aiden outside to play in his sandbox while I studied. After about half and hour they had me come out and look at their sandcastle. Aiden was so proud!

This semester I am taking two night classes. This means that Aiden gets to spend those two nights with his Oma and Opa. Last night they all went on a walk. Aiden is getting so big that they didn't even put him in a stroller and he walked about 1/2 a mile with them. My baby sure isn't a baby anymore. Here are the pics that Opa took.

Last week we discovered that out tub/shower unit was leaking. Jesse decided that we (meaning he) would replace the unit. This has turned into a even bigger project. Upon taking out the shower Jesse discovered that the toilet has been slowly leaking for probably a few years which means that we also have to replace the floor. Needless to say, we are getting a new bathroom. Here are some of the demolition pictures. I will keep you updated on the progress!

Here are some pics taken this past weekend. My best friends son Noah was baptized, or as Aiden calls him Whoa-wha. Jessica and Bill asked Jesse and I to be his godparents and we gladly accepted the role. The ceremony took place at the Prayer Chapel at Simpson Park Camp in Romeo Michigan. The camp has been my haven since age seven. Needless to say it was a great weekend and I am sad that it is over.

Aiden and I just got back today from camping with my mom and step-dad up towards Port Clinton. We had a great time. I was worried about how he was going to be without his daddy and how many times I was going to have to get him from the campfires, but I only had to tell him once that the fire was hot and he stayed away the whole weekend. Tonight while trying to get Aiden to sleep our "room-mate," Sharon, sensed that I was getting tired of his restlessness and unwillingness to settle down for the night. She looked at him and said, "Aiden it's time to go night-night" she tilted her head and closed her eyes and began to fake snore. He looked at her and then at me and continued to wiggle around. The next time that I told him it was time to settle down he looked and me, placed his head on my shoulder, and began to fake snore.....Again I say he amazes me each and every day......

Today we (Jesse, Aiden and I) visited Auglaize Village with Oma, Opa and Uncle Aaron for their Black Swamp Festival. Here's a picture that Opa took of Aiden doing one of his favorite things no matter where we are. Since Aiden has been 8-10 months old we have found that he has been very interested in mechanical type things, whether it be playing with cars, helping his daddy in the garage or just going up to any vehicle and touching the tires. So I guess it's true....Boys really do love their "Toys" even at such a young age.
